Abstract

Based on Lampignano and Kendrik (2018), lopographic examination applies barium sulfate contrast media which is entered through stoma and anus applying plain abdominal photo examination, AP, Oblique, lateral and post evacuation projections. On the other hand, in the radiology department of the Panti Rapih Hospital of Yogyakarta, such examination uses contrast media of water soluble type which is dissolved with NaCl, inserted through the colostomy and anus with AP, Oblique, and lateral projections. Lopographic examination procedures and contrast media water soluble in lopographic examination are used for patients. This was a qualitative study with a case study approach conducted in March-April 2025. The study subjects involved three radiographers, one radiology specialist and one sending doctor. Data were collected thorug observation, interviews and documentation. The results of the interview were proceed in the form of transcripts along with data reduction, data presentation, and conclusions. The results showed that the lopographic inspection procedure applied the plain abdominal photo, AP, Oblique, and lateral projections, which could show abnormalities anatomically. Before examination, the patient made preparations through fasting 6 hours and laxative. The contrast media was water soluble which was dissolved with NaCl with a ratio of 1: 4, since it is considered safer for patients. Water soluble contrast media was used in lopographic examination since it is easily absorbed by the body and safer for patients
